MISSING AND MURDERED WOMEN AND GIRLS COMMEMORATION GATHERING (MMIWG) -This 20-month project will honor the lives and legacies of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and LGBTQ2S individuals and increase awareness about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and LGBTQ2S Individuals. Project activities will include: a commemorative gathering, educational activities as well as the creation of an informative toolkit. Funded by the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, Department of Justice, Government of PEI and Health Canada.
This project is a response to Survivors and family members of MMIWG in PEI having expressed an interest of having a gathering involving themselves and community members to commemorate victims of violence. During the commemoration event, a commemorative piece will be unveiled in a public area so that their loved ones and other Indigenous women who have gone missing can be remembered. We believe that this will also educate the public on the severity of MMIWG.
The purpose of the toolkit will contain the steps needed in order to assist families/community members when an Indigenous woman or girls goes missing. The coordinator will deliver the introduction of the toolkit to frontline workers to be used in the community.
This project is coordinated by Patricia Voisey she can be contacted by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
